Volunteering Forum and Exhibition
Volunteering is a 'hot topic' in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie areas, as evidenced by a survey conducted by the Newcastle Interagency (NI), in late 2010. Consequently, NI will host a forum at Fort Scratchley, Newcastle, on 04 August 2011. The fully catered event will include a panel of guests discussing volunteer-related issues and offer solutions to address volunteering for the non-profit sector.
NI is a local group, well-established and supported by various organisations, government agencies and interested individuals, committed to improving community based services. According to Project Officer, Anne Alexander, the aim of the forum is to identify themes and ideas related to volunteer management by developing a community plan to improve their collaborative work, through strategy development and resource sharing.
The forum is targeted at organisations and groups with an interest in volunteering and volunteering management. Tickets cost $40 and are selling fast. "10,000 Photographs - 10,000 Stories. A Hunter Image" - first showing
The Hunter Volunteer Centre will contribute to the volunteering forum whilst launching the first of several 'mini' exhibitions of the project "10,000 Photographs - 10,000 Stories. A Hunter Image," which will celebrate the volunteering and community spirit in images and stories.
The exhibition project will consist of material compiled in a regional Photo Album and Storybook, to be used later as part of a state record for volunteering in 2011, via collaboration with the Volunteering Centre Network NSW. The stories will then be presented to the State and Federal Governments.
