Combined Charities Christmas Toy Warehouse

Hunter Volunteer Centre is asking people to make Christmas a bit extra special this year. The Salvation Army, Samaritans and Wesley Mission have teamed up to put together a Christmas Warehouse that houses toys for local families in need. Volunteers are required to sort gifts, as well as support clients in their selection of presents.

The initiative started in 2007 and it is expected that there will be 800 to 1000 families approaching the three charities for assistance this Christmas according to a spokesperson for the Warehouse.

A regular volunteer from the combined charities warehouse, Terry Musgrave, says that there is no better satisfaction than helping others at Christmas.

"It's definitely a rewarding job. You admire the generosity of the community to offer gifts and the least you can do is help out yourself", Mr Musgrave said.

The specific volunteer roles include warehouse volunteers, reception area volunteers, shopping volunteers and catering volunteers. Please contact Hunter Volunteer Centre for more details on (02) 4940 0077 or attend an information session at HVC on either Tuesday 8th November at 1.30pm or Thursday 10th November at 10am. Bookings are essential.
