Multicultural Volunteer Program

The aim of this program is to train and place individuals from various ethnic backgrounds in volunteer roles throughout the Hunter region.

Ethnic communities can recommend individuals from their community whom they feel would benefit from volunteering. These individuals will be invited to attend a one on one interview to go through their skills, experiences, what they would like to do and their schedules to start the process of finding them a volunteer role that will meet their needs.

After the interview, potential volunteers will be asked to attend a training program whilst the interviewer assigns them a mentor and identifies a few roles that may be of interest to them. Once they chose which of these roles they would like to pursue, the interviewer will work with the organisation that advertised the role to determine if this is an appropriate match and assist them through the placement process if it is.

A mentor will be assigned to each of the volunteers and will call the volunteer at least fortnightly to check on their progress and see how they are finding the role and help the volunteer if they have any questions or concerns about the role they are undertaking.
