2026 World Para Icy Hockey Women’s Championships

2026 World Para Icy Hockey Women’s Championships

This November, Newcastle will make history by hosting the 2026 World Para Ice Hockey Women’s Championships at the Hunter Ice Skating Stadium from 24 November to 29 November.

We are seeking volunteers to fill the following roles to welcome and support the athletes, help showcase the region’s sporting culture and make the championships an event people talk about for years to come.

Penalty Box Attendants and Game Statisticians

Volunteers should have a basic understanding of ice hockey or a willingness to learn. A background in the sport would be perfect, but if not, you should have an interest in ice hockey.

All penalty box attendants and statisticians must register as non-playing officials.

Team Hosts

As a team host, you will:

  • Be part of team preparations from arrival in Australia
  • Assist with transfers between accommodation and the venue
  • Stay with teams during training and games through to the end of the tournament
  • Ensure players have a great time while they are in Newcastle
  • Return to your own home at night, but be on call as needed
  • Enjoy a front-row seat to the action from the moment teams arrive.

While we would like to hear from all volunteers, we are especially interested in those competent in Norwegian, Finnish, Mexican, Korean, and Slovakian languages.

Bus and Van Drivers

Bus drivers:
  • Will be driving a 25-seater bus to transport teams from their accommodation to the venue.
  • Must be familiar with Newcastle and Lake Macquarie
  • Possess a light rigid licence with at least 12 months’ experience.
 Van Drivers:
  • Will support players on and off the vehicle in their chairs.
  • Ensure seamless transitions between accommodation and venues.
  • Must be familiar with the local area
  • No special licence required.
If you’re interested in the opportunity to showcase an inspiring sport, bring the international para ice hockey community together, and prove that ability, courage, and ambition know no boundaries, we need you! We know the people of Newy and the Hunter love their sport, have big hearts, and always lend a hand when needed: join us in making this event truly special.
